The artist called the work The Coming of Spring because he was working on this piece during that season. Tukiki belongs to the second generation of artists in Cape Dorset who have become full-time sculptors. This sculpture demonstrates the tendency among this group to challenge the stone rather than work with its inherent "stoneness."
