Celebrated chef Henry Burger established the hotel in 1929. The building is the only "Renaissance castle" in the city of Gatineau. Founded when prohibition was in force outside of Quebec, the hotel offered a luxurious atmosphere and fine dining. Because of its history and its architecture, it was declared a historical monument by the City of Gatineau in 2003.
