Shadow Puppet of Warrior,
Andhra Pradesh State, India Collection of Canadian Museum of Civilization Until the advent of the travelling cinema and television, troupes of shadow puppet players circulated through the villages of Southern India presenting all-night productions of the epics mixed with folk tales. The puppets, made of goat skin, display a bold graphic style related to folk painting and little of the elaborate cut work better known in the Indonesian puppets that they inspired. Photo: H.
